More than performance. Your whole self — on and off the field.
Sport Psychology for athletes who want support that goes beyond the game — addressing performance alongside the stress, pressure, and challenges that come with being a competitive athlete.
What is sport psychology, and how is it different from coaching?
Sport psychology is licensed clinical care for athletes, from a therapist who also does performance work. It covers everything mental performance coaching does, like confidence, pressure, focus, and mistakes, and also anxiety, identity, mood, relationships, and life outside the sport.
You can feel something is off but you’re not sure what it is.
Maybe the pressure to perform has started bleeding into other areas of your life. Maybe your confidence on the field is affecting how you feel about yourself off it. Maybe you’re dealing with stress, anxiety, or challenges that have nothing to do with sports — but everything to do with how you’re showing up as an athlete.
You don’t have to separate the athlete from the person. Trying to keep them apart often makes things harder.
The talent is still in there. But right now, the whole picture needs attention — not just the performance piece.
This is where coaching and therapy meet.
Most mental performance coaches can help you with the performance side. But when the challenges run deeper — when stress, identity, relationships, or overall wellbeing are part of the picture — you need someone who is also a licensed therapist.
As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Mental Performance Coach with a background as a Division I athlete, I can work with you across the full spectrum — from performance optimization to broader personal challenges — without you having to see two different people.
I take insurance for Sport Psychology services, because it is licensed clinical care. If you’d like to know whether your plan is accepted, reach out before booking and we’ll check together. Mental Performance Coaching is not a clinical service and is self-pay.
What coaching covers, and what sport psychology adds.
A good mental performance coach can help with the first list. The second calls for a licensed therapist.
You don’t have to pick one list. Many athletes come in for something on the first and find something on the second, and with sport psychology you can work on both with one person.
Three steps to feeling like yourself again — on and off the field.

“Andrew made me feel comfortable sharing my thoughts. It was refreshing that he always had something helpful to respond with, making it feel like I was never saying something wrong. I would describe Andrew’s coaching style as engaging and thoughtful.”
You might be thinking…
01 “I just need help with my performance. I don’t need therapy.”
You might be right — and if so, Mental Performance Coaching is probably the better fit. But many athletes find that once they start addressing the performance side, there’s more underneath worth exploring. The free discovery call will help us figure out the right path together.
See Mental Performance Coaching →02 “I’m not sure I’m comfortable talking to a therapist.”
That’s more common than you might think — especially among athletes who are used to pushing through. My job is to create an environment where you feel at ease. You’re always in control of what you share and how deep we go.
03 “I don’t want to be seen as weak or struggling.”
Seeking support isn’t weakness — it’s the same instinct that makes a great athlete hire a skills coach or a strength trainer. The mental side deserves the same investment.
04 “I’m already so busy. I don’t have time for one more commitment.”
I understand. But the challenges you’re carrying don’t disappear on their own — they tend to get heavier. A regular session is less time than most people spend replaying mistakes in their head after a tough game.
This page is for athletes carrying more than the performance.
If that doesn’t quite fit, one of these may be a better match.
