Do I need a mental performance coach, a sport psychologist, or a therapist?
Since I offer all three, I can help you figure out which one actually fits, and I’ll tell you if none of them does.
What’s the difference?
Mental Performance Coaching helps athletes train the skills they use in competition: focus, confidence, composure, recovery from mistakes. Sport Psychology does that work and can also treat what sits underneath it — anxiety, identity, mood. Therapy is for Entrepreneurs and Professionals to help them manage the pressure of trying to show up fully as a provider, a parent, a spouse, and never quite knowing if it’s enough.

Last one: does it stay on the field?
When the game is over, does the pressure let go — or does it follow into sleep, school, eating, mood, or how you feel about yourself?
Mental Performance Coaching
What you’re describing sounds like a performance skill, and skills can be trained. Coaching works directly on nerves, overthinking, and bouncing back after mistakes.
Sport Psychology
When the pressure follows you off the field, coaching alone only covers part of it. Sport psychology handles the performance work and the clinical side together, with one person.
Therapy
Burnout and overwhelm respond well to therapy. We’ll look at what’s driving the pattern and build the boundaries and habits that change it.
Test Prep & College Consulting
We work on content, strategy, and test anxiety together, since they’re usually connected. If anxiety turns out to be the bigger issue, I’ll tell you on the first call and we’ll adjust the plan.
Performance Anxiety Coaching
The same tools that help an athlete take a penalty kick in front of a crowd can help you through a big presentation. This is coaching applied to your work instead of a sport.
You need a skills coach, not me.
If the gap is technical or physical, mental performance work won’t close it. A technical coach or strength trainer is the better first step. If the skills are there and things still fall apart in games, that’s a good time to reach out.
That’s business coaching.
If the business is what feels stuck and you’re otherwise doing well, therapy probably isn’t the right fit. I work with a small number of clients on business coaching: purpose, what’s holding the business back, and the systems to move forward. Mention it on the call and we’ll see if it’s a fit.
